Cacao History and Lore

THEOBROMINE, one of the main active ingredients in cacao, translates from Greek as "the food of the gods"

The Mayans called the drink “chocolhaa” (“bitter water”) and Aztecs called it “Xocolatl.” From those words eventually evolved the word “chocolate.” Cacao was used in special celebrations such as those for funeral rituals, war, or harvests.

In another translation, xocolatl translates to "heart blood" or "the love that runs through the heart" And what would the food of the gods be? Chocolate!

Our Ceremonial Cacao Formulation

We believe that maya nut provides a grounding base for the heart expansion of cacao. The idea to combine maya nut and cacao came from a cacao shaman who stated that cacao and maya-nut are supreme synergists. With the maya nut tree (brosimum alicastrum) as a canopy tree (up to 150 ft high) and the cacao tree (theobroma cacao) as the understory tree (up to 30 ft high) in the rainforest, these 2 trees exist naturally in the same ecosystem.
