Ceremonial Cacao Preparation
How much cacao should I prepare?
When I drank a "ceremonial dose" of cacao on the porch in Guatemala, it was 1.5 oz. or 42.5 grams. Thats a good amount of cacao. If you would like to sit with cacao to do inner work or deeper personal work, a higher dose is useful. Otherwise, 1 oz of cacao is the typical serving size.
Injoy some of our favorite cacao recipes that have been tried and tested in our kitchen for over 10 years.
***Ideal water temp is 170 degrees F or lower. Using boiling water or high temp water may oxidize/burn off some of the natural compounds.
***To prepare maya cacao with only a mug, hot water and a utensil; add all ingredients to mug, add just enough hot water to cover the material the agitate until smooth paste forms, then add remainder of water and stir until smooth.
***Some science suggests that adding dairy to cacao (and coffee) binds up the natural goodies found in cacao, though there is conflicting evidence.
***For those that may have a sensitive stomach to cacao......some customers have reported that maya cacao causes much less - none of the stomach issues that regular cacao may cause. Some ingredients to use to mitigate the diuretic/bitter of cacao: marsh-mellow root powder, licorice root powder, astragalus root powder, coconut oil, ghee butter,

Cacao Connected Practices

Ceremonial cacao is used for many different practices/activities. Cacao is a connection and partnership facilitator, meaning it helps you connect to whatever you choose to connect with at a deeper, more profound level. Think of cacao as a plant medicine partner rather than a teacher. In this way, cacao can help to empower you to connect more deeply to the things and activities you love.

Throughout mindful/new age/spiritual communities, it can be used for yoga, sound baths, meditation, Breathwork, ecstatic dance and tantric practices.

In other spaces, it can be utilized as a pre workout or exercise performance enhancer, creativity/energy booster, creative writing, creative projects, everyday coffee replacement.

For family use, cacao can facilitate more joy and connection for family activities. It is safe for kids, just use a smaller dose (1/2-1oz)
